Shake Shack‘s Dubai Chocolate Pistachio Shake is back on the menu from 9 June, returning to locations across the United States for a limited run after becoming one of the brand’s most talked-about limited-time releases. The drink, which mimics the textures and layers of the viral Dubai chocolate bar, will be available nationwide.
What Goes Into the Shake Shack Dubai Chocolate Pistachio Shake
The build is precise by design. Pistachio frozen custard forms the base, topped with toasted kataifi and chopped pistachios, all contained inside a cup lined with a dark chocolate shell that cracks when you break the surface. It is that crackable element, alongside the use of fresh pistachio paste, that gives the drink its closest connection to the bar that inspired it.
John Karangis, Shake Shack’s Executive Chef and VP of Culinary Innovation, explained the thinking behind the original development. ‘When we first developed the Dubai Chocolate Pistachio Shake, we set out to do something Shake Shack had never done before, a crackable chocolate shell lining the cup, fresh pistachio paste, and toasted kataifi to capture the signature layers and textures of the viral Dubai chocolate bar,’ he said in a statement. ‘The response from our guests was humbling and told us everything we needed to know.’
Karangis confirmed the decision to bring it back was driven by that first-run reception. ‘This summer, we’re bringing it back with the same premium ingredients and the same attention to detail that made it our most successful shake to date. For anyone who hasn’t tried it yet, this is your moment.’
The Dubai Chocolate Trend That Drove the Demand
The shake’s origins trace back to a wider food phenomenon. According to Tasting Table, the Dubai chocolate bar itself debuted around 2021 but reached global fame in spring 2024, when social media coverage turned it into one of the more scrutinised food trends of recent years. That spike in interest gave Shake Shack a clear window: a product rooted in something people genuinely wanted to try, rather than a trend the brand was trying to manufacture.
The timing of last summer’s launch landed squarely in that wave of interest, and the response confirmed it. When the shake first launched, Food & Wine reported it was introduced at 30 locations and priced from $8. The nationwide rollout this time around represents a considerably broader reach.
Megan Schaltegger reviewed the shake for Delish during its original run and went in with measured expectations. ‘I went into the taste test with normal expectations,’ she wrote. ‘I didn’t anticipate disliking the drink by any means (it’s a milkshake, after all). I just wasn’t convinced it would satisfy my craving for Dubai chocolate. I was quickly proven wrong.’ By the end of the review, she had abandoned the straw entirely in favour of a spoon.
Social Reaction to the Return
The announcement landed well on Instagram. ‘Best news ever,’ one user wrote, while another added, ‘I cannot wait to get one! A great shake to cool off this summer!!!’ A launch video drew its own commentary, with one fan writing, ‘I’d like to couple up with this shake plz and thank you,’ and another calling it ‘a bombshell if I’ve ever seen one.’
The Shake Shack Dubai Chocolate Pistachio Shake is available now at Shake Shack locations nationwide for a limited time. Given the original run’s trajectory (from a 30-location test to one of the brand’s most successful shakes) the window to try it this time is likely to be competitive.
