Lauren Graham has put her name to a gluten-free banana coffee cake muffin recipe as part of a partnership with Bob’s Red Mill, and the actress and author says the collaboration is personal rather than promotional. Graham, who has coeliac disease, told Delish that Lauren Graham gluten-free baking does not have to mean compromised texture, a point she feels strongly about.
Lauren Graham gluten-free baking and the coeliac reality
For anyone managing coeliac disease, flour choice is not a minor preference. Graham is direct about why she partnered with Bob’s Red Mill specifically. ‘Sometimes gluten-free flours can have sort of a texture that isn’t great. And I find this texture really nice,’ she says of the brand’s Gluten-Free 1-to-1 Baking Flour, the product she used for her muffin recipe.
That texture question matters more than it might seem. According to WebstaurantStore, Bob’s Red Mill produces its gluten-free products in a designated gluten-free facility, where they undergo rigorous testing for cross-contamination. For someone with coeliac disease baking for others who share the condition, that production standard carries real weight beyond the recipe itself.
The muffin recipe forms part of Bob’s Red Mill’s Moregetherness campaign, now in its second year. The campaign encourages people to connect over food, and Graham’s framing of the project leans into that warmth. ‘There’s something wonderfully old-fashioned about bringing something homemade to someone’s door, it’s personal without being complicated,’ she says. ‘Showing up with food says, “I was thinking of you.”‘
Stars Hollow on screen and off
The Moregetherness idea draws an obvious line back to Gilmore Girls and the sense of community that defined the show’s fictional world of Stars Hollow. Graham acknowledges it directly. ‘I’ve been lucky enough to be associated with a fictional world where people really show up for one another. Moregetherness takes that feeling people love and makes it possible in real life,’ she says.
That world is about to get renewed attention. Graham will revisit Stars Hollow in an upcoming Gilmore Girls documentary, a project that will give fans who have spent years with the show another point of re-entry. But the cast’s closeness was never purely a function of what appeared on screen.
When talking about her time on set, Graham recalled a late-night habit she associates with co-star Kelly Bishop. The detail is specific enough to stick. ‘Kelly Bishop was a dancer and very, very disciplined. I never saw her eat anything kind of excessive, and she would come up to me at two in the morning and be like, “Do you want to split a bag of Cheetos?”‘ Graham says. ‘We’d go to craft services and get one of those little tiny bags, and she would delicately eat them, so I always think of her with Cheetos.’
For the record: crunchy Cheetos, not puffs.
Graham’s own refrigerator habits are rather less disciplined. Asked what she shares with her Gilmore Girls character Lorelai, she identified one trait immediately. ‘I guess just stand[ing] with the refrigerator door open eating out of the refrigerator like a heathen,’ she says of their common ground. Lorelai’s Pop-Tarts-for-breakfast energy translated, it seems, into something altogether more considered when the cameras stopped rolling, even if Lauren Graham gluten-free baking took a partnership with Bob’s Red Mill to fully emerge.
The Gluten-Free Banana Coffee Cake Muffin recipe, made with Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free 1-to-1 Baking Flour, is available now as part of the Moregetherness campaign.
