Framed by its Material Intelligence philosophy, VitrA Tiles presented The Code concept and a suite of innovations to a professional audience at Cersaie 2026.
Bologna, Italy: Cersaie 2026, the international exhibition for bathroom furnishings and ceramic tile, unfolded in Bologna, Italy on 21-25 September, and VitrA Tiles was on hand to welcome architects, designers, clients and industry professionals. Conceived around the idea of Material Intelligence, the brand’s stand set out its 2027 collections and newest innovations.
“Every material has a code. Material Intelligence deciphers it.” The phrase distils the philosophy driving VitrA Tiles’ design practice, in which materials drawn from nature are reread through a fusion of research, state-of-the-art technology and design expertise. Drawing on the visual and technical richness of the natural world, VitrA Tiles translates them into original surfaces, opening fresh avenues of inspiration for the architecture of today.

A Threefold Design Vocabulary
Within The Code, three distinct design languages take shape as three collections, Geocode, Resincode and Metacode, each laid out for Cersaie visitors within the VitrA Tiles booth.
Resincode channels natural concrete, with its porous, mineral-dense texture, soft natural transitions and stratified surface effects, lending today’s interiors a surface aesthetic that is pared back, balanced and refined. Geocode is drawn from Spanish quartzite, gneiss, marble and limestone, reinterpreting the rich geological inheritance of natural stone on ceramic surfaces for a contemporary eye, and it is offered as four separate typologies of surface: Alba, Rio, Imperio and Merano. Metacode unfolds across three distinct surfaces in iron, copper and gold tones, capturing the understated interplay of shade and the muted glints of patinated metal on ceramic, where industrial character meets a refined aesthetic.

Fresh Technical Thinking
Beyond the collections themselves, VitrA Tiles also used its Cersaie 2026 presence to introduce two innovations, V-Flex and V-Tone.
Powered by Ceraloc®, the locking technology developed by Välinge, V-Flex is an installation solution for tiles that dispenses with adhesive entirely. Bespoke side profiles allow a mechanical bond between tiles, and in contrast to conventional bonded methods the system promises application as much as five times faster. The outcome is precise alignment, consistent grout joints and a crisp, professional finish. Where necessary, any single tile can be taken up and replaced on its own, a real asset that streamlines upkeep and repair. Acoustic comfort completes the picture. V-Flex is suggested for store chains and retail stores, as well as hotels, offices, showrooms, educational buildings and commercial spaces.

Addressing the tonal variation that arises in ceramic manufacturing, V-Tone safeguards colour consistency and design coherence across surfaces. The rollout of V-Tone technology across the company’s manufacturing lines is ongoing.
