Zainab Shire

Zainab Shire came to current affairs writing through international development. She studied international relations, spent five years at a foreign affairs think tank, and did two years at an aid agency before moving to journalism. She writes about geopolitics, migration, defence, and the domestic implications of decisions made in rooms most readers will never see. She is interested in the stories behind the summits and the policy behind the press conferences. She has attended enough panel discussions to know that expertise and microphone access are different qualifications. Zainab lives in West London. She reads foreign policy journals on the train and has stopped apologising for it.
