The Sonic banana drinks menu arrives nationwide on 24 August, bringing four new banana-flavoured treats to customers across the United States. The launch spans shakes, slushes and a dirty soda variant, positioning the chain at the centre of what The Takeout has identified as one of the defining drink trends of 2026.
What Is on the Sonic Banana Drinks Menu
The headliner returning to the lineup is the Banana Pudding Shake, which first appeared in 2021. The shake blends banana pudding-flavoured soft serve with vanilla wafer cookie crumbles, then tops the whole thing with whipped topping, more cookie crumbles and a cherry. It is a straightforward revival of a proven seller.
Alongside it sits the Banana Pudding Blast, a colder variation on the same core ingredients. The soft serve and cookie crumble combination is preserved, though the Blast leans further into the cookie element with an additional layer of vanilla wafer crumbles on top.
Perhaps the most eye-catching addition is the Banana Dirty Dr Pepper. The drink combines the soda with banana flavour and cream, leaning into the dirty soda format that has become a fixture of American fast-food beverage menus. It is a combination that reads as both familiar and unusual at the same time.
Rounding out the four is the Banana Pudding Cream Slush, which takes creamy vanilla soft serve and blends it with an icy banana pudding slush. Of the four, it sits closest to a dessert in texture and profile.
Banana as a Trend, and the Hotumn Alternative
The launch does not come in isolation. The Sonic banana drinks menu lands at a moment when the flavour has genuine industry momentum: The Takeout notes that a spring 2026 menu at Dunkin’ also featured banana prominently, reflecting the same broader shift. The New York Times has gone so far as to declare banana the new pumpkin spice, framing it as the next seasonal flavour to achieve cultural saturation.
That said, banana remains a polarising flavour. Not every customer will greet four banana-forward options with enthusiasm, and Sonic has clearly anticipated that. Running alongside the banana launch is the chain’s Hotumn collection, a set of four fall-inspired drinks that steer entirely clear of the fruit.
The Hotumn lineup features Cherry Pie made with Coke, Blueberry Pie made with Dr Pepper, Harvest Berry made with Sprite, and Cranberry Orchard Sweet Tea. The four drinks draw on autumnal fruit and berry profiles without leaning on pumpkin spice or, indeed, banana. For customers who find the banana lineup a step too far, the Hotumn range offers a credible alternative running at exactly the same time.
This year has already seen Sonic introduce smashburgers and a Sonic The Hedgehog Kids’ Meal, alongside a stream of new refreshers and slushies. The banana and Hotumn rollouts continue that pattern of simultaneous, contrasting launches designed to cover a broad range of palettes in a single menu cycle.
Both the banana treats and the Hotumn collection are available nationwide from 24 August.
